TOXIC RELATIONSHIPS AMONG CAMPUS STUDENTS
We all get ourselves into a relationship in order to share our time and companionship as well as sharing our love and passion.
But how do you know that your relationship is undergoing a rough patch or when it's broken from the inside out?
In this article, I am going to feature mainly on a toxic relationship, its understanding, why it happens and also see various signs of it.
DEFINITION OF TOXIC RELATIONSHIP
A toxic relationship is described as a relationship that has gone sour.
When a relationship becomes toxic, every interaction in the relationship can feel weary or out of control and being loaded with negative attitudes which results to anger, disappointment and discomfort among the partners. This has largely resulted into one taking his or her own life.
It was recently when we witnessed Fridah Makena, The Meru National Polytechnic student taking her phone and film herself taking pills in order to end her life after she had suspected that her boyfriend was on an affair with another girl. Seeing it much devastating,Fridah decided to commit suicide since to her, without the man of her dreams, life was not worth living anymore.
It has been discovered that the reasons why abusive relationships are being witness in campuses is because the relationships are being held on unreasoned passion rather than true love. The study has proved that many students are leading a couples life while at campus since both gents and ladies are now living together as a husband and wife. This state of turning an academic life into a family affair results majorly into a catastrophic breakups
The more time you spend with each other, the more you develop a bond among yourselves and if in case such a bond is broken,it will become so difficult for one to start a new chapter of life and the affected person will end up being depressed.
My question is,are you undergoing this kind of abusive relationship or does your friend or a relative goes through? I can assume you might not be knowing whether you are undergoing it or not. Here are some signs to help you recognize:
*Lack of trust- A relationship without trust is like a car without a gas. It can't go anywhere.
*Hostile atmosphere- Constant anger is a sure sign of unhealthy relationship.
*Lack of communication- Relationship that has no communication heads to nowhere.
*Mutual avoidance- If you spend your time avoiding each other, note that your relationship is no longer working
*Fake pretense - Smiles don't always mean everything is Ok. You can't judge a book by its cover.
*Dishonesty- Cheating is an animal in relationship it will undercuts a bit of it.
*Frequent violence: Fighting each and every day with your partner is a direct reflection that your relationship is just a centimeter to capsize.
*Feeling Guilt- You never seem to be understood or appreciated no matter what you do, you are always hurting them. You’re always the one with problems, you’re always the one who has to change for this relationship to go on. You’re the source of all evil. They might actually deny every hurtful comment they ever said to you or accuse you of making it all up in your head, making you feel crazy.
